Creatine for Memory: What the Randomized Trials Actually Show

Creatine is the main active in MemoryFuel. Here is the research on creatine and memory, summarized from three systematic reviews and the trials inside them.

The short answer

Creatine supplements produce a small, real-looking improvement in some memory tests in healthy adults, larger in older people and in vegetarians, and absent in some studies of rested young adults. Three systematic reviews published between 2018 and 2024 agree on that broad shape while differing on details.[1][2][3]

The dose in context

The scoop's creatine sits in the maintenance range; several memory trials used more.

What the three reviews found

ReviewTrials pooledMain finding
Avgerinos 2018[1]6 randomized trials, healthy adultsPossible gains in short-term memory and reasoning; inconsistent elsewhere
Prokopidis 2023[2]10 randomized trialsSmall overall memory benefit, larger in adults aged about 66 to 76
Xu 2024[3]16 randomized trialsEffects on memory, attention time and processing speed; none on overall cognition

The individual trials behind them

The studies are small and varied. Young vegetarians taking 5 g a day for six weeks improved on a working-memory test and a reasoning test.[4] Young women taking 20 g a day for five days improved memory only if they were vegetarian.[5] Older adults averaging about 76 improved on several memory tasks after a week at 20 g a day.[6] Young adults on a low maintenance dose for six weeks showed nothing.[7] In 2024, a single dose of about 0.35 g per kilogram improved processing and short-term memory for hours in people kept awake overnight.[8]

How to read this as a buyer

Three lessons follow. Starting status matters: people with less creatine to begin with respond more. Stress matters: the clearest effects appear when the brain's energy supply is strained. And dose matters: several positive trials used four times a typical scoop. A 5 g daily product like MemoryFuel sits at the evidence-backed end of the spectrum for muscle and at the lower end for the brain.[9] Expect modest effects that take weeks, and judge them with a simple before-and-after test rather than by feel.

Quick questions on this topic

Does creatine improve memory in healthy adults?

Slightly, on average. Meta-analyses find a small memory benefit, larger in older adults, with inconsistent results across tasks and a null result in rested young adults.

How long did the memory trials last?

Most ran from five days to six weeks. Several used 20 g a day, four times a MemoryFuel scoop.

Is creatine approved for memory problems?

No. It is a dietary supplement and is not approved to treat any memory disorder.
